I'm Design Editor, also known as Catherine Davis. I'm married to Jim and mom to 2-year-old twins Maggie and Charlotte. My husband, a tall newspaperman turned high school english teacher, has a wicked sense of humor and insane grilled-cheese skills.
As for the girls, we tried for years to have a baby and were blessed with two. Totally worth the wait. A popular post is their first birthday party, you can see it here. Check out my Project Life posts for a good peek into our world these days.
My love affair for design and layout started when I was an editor of my high school yearbook. It was my first experience putting words and photos together and I was hooked. Since then, I've spent fifteen years as an award-winning art director and designer at daily newspapers, including the Los Angeles Times.
I'm currently the Design Director at a paper in the Washington, D.C. area. You'll find me blogging about it every once in a blue moon, like the big news events here and here. You can take a peek at my journalism design portfolio here.
I started Design Editor as a place to celebrate all things design. My rule of thumb with a post is if it's something I'd email to a friend with the subject line "I love this!" it belongs on my blog. (How's that for a hardcore editorial policy?)
You'll find posts on graphic design like weekly font picks, free downloads and video tips. I'm a fan of modern memory keeping and anything artsy craftsy. You'll also see a fun giveaway every once in awhile.
Thanks for hanging out with me. Have questions? Want to share a cool idea? Interested in advertising opportunities? Drop me a line at thedesigneditor@gmail.com, I’d love to hear from you.
