I'm Design Editor, also known as Catherine Davis.
I grew up as a proud Army brat in a close family. I love any and all 80's music. I'm 39 and buy clothes at Forever 21. I'm a sucker for anything British and cherish my DVR.
I'm married to Jim and mom to 3-year-old twins Maggie and Charlotte. My husband, a tall newspaperman turned high school english teacher, has a wicked sense of humor and insane grilled-cheese skills. He's my number one supporter and a helpful contributor to a lot of the content I feature here.
As for my girls, we tried for years to have a baby and were blessed with two. It was an emotional journey and completely worth it all. Check out my Project Life posts for a good peek into our world these days.
My love affair for design and layout started when I was an editor of my high school yearbook. It was my first experience putting words and photos together and I was hooked. Since then, I've spent seventeen years as an award-winning art director and designer at daily newspapers, including the Los Angeles Times. I'm currently the Design Director at a paper in the Washington, D.C. area. You can take a peek at my journalism design portfolio here.
I started Design Editor in 2008 as a place to celebrate all things design. You'll find posts on graphic design like weekly font picks, free downloads and video tips. I feature things that inspire me creatively like visual eye candy, link lists and monthly music playlists. You'll even see a fun craft project and giveaway every once in awhile.
A few years ago, my need to design everything in my life led me to the world of scrapbooking which is highly addictive. I'm currently on the Project Life Creative Team for Becky Higgins and on the Studio Calico Creative Teams for Scrapbooking and Project Life. I feature memory keeping freebies and tutorials on the blog and sell digital design products in my Etsy shop for anyone who'd like to catch the wave.
