I like to create a DIY Christmas gift for friends every year and these 8" and 12" tall letters were my pick for 2012. Who wouldn't want a big, glittery initial? The wonderful gift of typography?
The best part of this craft–so easy. Minimal work and the most time involved is the glue drying.
SUPPLIES | You'll need cardboard letters found at most craft stores. (You can order some online here.) Grab yourself a good amount of glitter–brand, style, and color up to you!
To get the glitter to stick to the letters, you can use spray adhesive (take it outside and don't breathe in!) or apply glue to the letters with a foam brush.
HOW TO | Spread out some newspaper or scrap paper to protect surfaces from the glue and to catch excess glitter. Apply adhesive to the letters and sprinkle with glitter. Don't be shy, pile it on! Work in sections, allowing plenty of drying time in between. I did the fronts first, then sides, the tops, etc.
TAKE NOTE | Like most things with glitter, it will rub off after the drying process is over, so be sure to handle with care. (I worked on these last night and I'm still finding glitter on my face!)
I'll be wrapping these letters up in big sheets of cellophane tied with bold ribbons and tags. Can't wait to hand them out! Are you getting crafty with gifts for the holiday? What are you making?
