I've put together a Photoshop tutorial on how to edit the latest digital design elements in my shop: The Glitter Alphabet, Glitter Numbers + Extras and Glitter Tags. You can add any color you want or add shadow for a three dimensional effect.
TIPS ON GETTING STARTED: Your PNG files will come over with a transparent background. Drag your element to a new 300 dpi artboard. This way your original file won't be edited. Even if you're creating something that will be for the web, I find that the glitter effect works best if you edit at 300 dpi and then reduce the file size when you're done.
ADDING SHADOW
STEP ONE: In your layers palette, make sure the layer with your glitter character or tag is selected. Select the "Add Layer Style" icon at the bottom of the palette window. This will drop down blending options.
STEP TWO: From the "Blending Options" drop down menu, select "Drop Shadow."
STEP THREE: You can play with the settings of your drop shadow for the look you want. As a rule, I prefer to work in Linear Burn for the Blend Mode and bring down the opacity. Bump up the Distance and Size when you want a stronger shadow. Select OK and you're done!
ADDING COLOR
STEP ONE: In your layers palette, select the layer with your glitter character or tag. Select the "Add Layer Style" icon at the bottom of the palette window. This will bring up blending options.
STEP TWO: From the "Blending Options" drop down menu, select "Color Overlay."
STEP THREE: Click on the Blend Mode drop-down menu and select "Color Burn"
STEP FOUR: Click on the color bar to bring up the color picker and select a color. Bolder colors look best with this glitter effect. Select OK and you're done!
