Do you have great moments sitting in your phone? The images that don't quite make the cut for frames in your house or scrapbook destinations like Project Life? The lovable leftovers?
I do, so I'm starting a project for these images called Phonebook. Super simple mini-albums dedicated to the leftovers. This first volume is for my number one photography subject: my kids.
The goal with this is simplicity. Don't journal if you don't want to, don't worry about chronological order. Put some design effort into it or just get the photos printed and in the book. Are you feeling me yet? Here's how mine came together:
I bought a mini-binder during a trip to Staples. (Oh yes, I'm just as cuckoo for office supplies stores as I am for craft stores.) The great thing about these binders is the page protectors hold 5.5x8.5 pages. That means you can print photos or layouts on letter-sized paper and trim right down the middle. One cut. Simplicity!
I had a little fun with the design, played with color screens and layered templates, but you don't have to! One out-of-focus Instagram per page could be really cool. Here are all the full layouts I have in the album so far, click to enlarge:
If you'd like to make a Phonebook for yourself, that's awesome! Here are a few freebies to get you started. (For personal use only)
- Starburst Label Digital Overlay: Use this PNG file to add to photos or layouts in Photoshop. I used these to date photos. The dotted background is transparent. Download here.
- Starburst Label Printables: If you aren't Photoshop savvy, that's ok! I've included a PDF with twelve 2" starbursts. Print and use your circle punch to cut them out. Adhere to printed photos. Download here.
You can make this album for next to nothing, minus the cost of the binder and photo printing.
- Binder: Avery Durable View Binder with 1.5 Inch Rings in White. (I'm envisioning a fun row of these on my office bookshelf.)
- Page protectors: Avery Sheet Protectors
- Font: Linden Hill. Download for free here.
I'll be posting updates to this Phonebook and making more downloads, so stay tuned. Future volumes may include my pregnancy progression photos that I never did anything with and a collection of the "Thelma and Louise" style photos I've taken with people.
Be sure to let me know if you have any download requests or questions!
