Welcome to the Baby Week tour of my nursery!
Getting started on the room wasn't as easy as I thought it would be. Because the ceiling of the room is angled with dormers, the wall space is minimal and awkward. No place for a cool mural or custom print from Etsy. I had never realized how much I depended on artwork to tie together the design of a room. I didn't want to get stuck with a wallpaper pattern I'd be sick of in two years. So I focused on the details.
My jumping off point was the bumpers. I knew we were having girls, but I kept insisting I didn't want to do pink. Then I found bumpers with a sweet, vintage-inspired toile featuring a little girl reading under a tree, kids flying a kite...I was sold. It was green–great; piped in pink–oh. So I caved. Now it's everywhere.
I picked the paint color from there. Baize Green from Sherwin Williams.
A very cool green. Jim has now painted every square inch of this house. He's amazing! The shot of the room above right is early on in the process. The second crib is now where the rocking chair is.
I found this bookcase at the unpainted furniture store. The perfect height for the low ceiling. I designed the prints with the girls' names to fill the long and skinny wall space.
I also created a few simple designs to fill in frames around the room. Below I used the image from my bumper scanned in. (The same one I used on the card keepsake book.)
My Mom found the oversized baby pin at Homegoods. My husband is 6'4" and I'm 5'11". The family has joked about how big the babies were going to be so we had a good laugh over the pin. The dresses were mine as a baby.
I love the shadow boxes with their hospital hats, such a sweet memory. I was inspired by the amazing scrapboxes by Martha Stewart Weddings guru Darcy Miller. (The first time I saw them I did that thing where you are panicking to get to your email to send to friends.) I plan on many more in the future. I made mine with Ikea frames. Scrapbook paper glued to foam core, with push pins holding the hats in place.
More fun stuff from my childhood. Humpty Dumpty is a night light from my nursery. How much do you love the Let's Go Shopping book? The addiction started young with me!
The memo boards are behind their door. Never a shortage of things to display. (Note the baby comb in the bottom corner. It's mine. We joked at the shower that it looks like it's from 1873 not 1973!) My awesome sister bought and painted the little bench the dogs are sitting on.
Thanks for stopping by!
